Robert M. Anderson
 

Robert Anderson has worked with clients in 30 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America since 1989. Dr. Anderson has a strong background in the financial industry. Having worked with many leading international banks, he has created leadership and communication programs and delivered them globally, adapting the content and approach of the programs to the local contexts and learning styles. He also works extensively with the computer, media, and pharmaceutical industries. His areas of expertise include conflict resolution, cross-cultural communication, facilitation skills, leadership training, spoken and written communication, trainer development, and performance management. Since 1991, he has made three yearly trips to Asia where he works with clients in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. He is an avid student of Japanese and has done communication skills coaching with senior members of the Japanese government. He has also trained Japanese sales teams in presentation techniques for their U.S. and European clients. 


Dr. Anderson works as an instructor in conflict resolution at Columbia University’s International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution where he conducts basic and advanced seminars in negotiation and mediation skills. At Columbia’s School of Continuing Education, he teaches courses on self-awareness and emotional intelligence for students of conflict resolution. He himself is a certified mediator and leads mediation sessions at the Institute for Mediation and Conflict Resolution in Bronx, New York. 


Born and raised in land-locked Minnesota, Dr. Anderson first developed his interest in international work when he spent a year in Argentina as a foreign exchange student. He then went on to earn his B.A. and M.A. in Spanish from Oberlin College and the University of Michigan, respectively. He has also lived in Mexico and has conducted management workshops throughout Latin America. He holds the degree of Doctor of Education in adult education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
